When facing authentication failures during RTI submissions, verify that your credentials are correct. If your password is longer than 12 characters, only use the first 12 characters. Also, ensure the appropriate agent credentials are entered in the correct section under settings if required.
The error you receive from HMRC will look like the below in relation to invalid credentials used.
If you have forgotten or lost your government gateway password for RTI submissions, you will need to recover this directly with HMRC. You can do this by calling them, or using the recovery option online for forgotten password or Government Gateway user ID:
If your PAYE scheme has been ceased, this cannot be reopened within BrightPay. You will need to contact HMRC directly to request that they reopen the scheme on their side. Once HMRC have reactivated the scheme, BrightPay will be able to connect and submit RTI as normal. You can contact HMRC's Employer Helpline on 0300 200 3200.
