In the pay period in which an employee reaches state pension age, BrightPay will notify you of this and prompt you to update their NI Category
Clck on the option to Fix NI Category
Note: If the software is not prompting a change of NI category as expected, it may be down to the period payment date. BrightPay will prompt and allow the change only if the employee reaches state pension age before the pay date. If the employee's state retirement age is after the payment date within the period, you can process them on letter A and then in the following period, BrightPay will prompt you to change to letter C and there will be a refund for the previous period.
Example; if the employee reaches state retirement age on 15th August and payment date is 28th August - BrightPay will prompt you to amend to letter C before processing this month's payroll.
If the employee reaches state retirement age on 31st August and payment date is 28th August, BrightPay will not allow the change until the next period (as the employee was still under state retirement age at the date of payment). In this instance, process under letter A for August and then the next month you will see a prompt to amend to letter to C and a NI refund will appear for the employee.
