If an employee is already on payroll and you need to pay them backdated pay, for example because a pay rise was agreed after the pay date, there are two ways to do it in BrightPay.
Option 1: Pay it as an addition in the current pay period
- Make sure you have an addition type set up for the payment (for example 'Backdated pay'). See Adding/Amending Addition Types.
- In Payroll, open the current pay period and select the employee.
- Under Additions & Deductions, click Add, choose the addition type and enter the amount.
- Finalise the payslip as normal. The payment is reported to HMRC in the current period's FPS.
Option 2: Re-open the earlier payslips and correct them
- In Payroll, select the earlier pay period and click Re-open Payslips for the employee.
- Amend the payslip and finalise it again.
- Send an Additional FPS to HMRC from the RTI menu so that the employee's year-to-date figures are updated.
