BrightPay currently does not have a specific, automated feature dedicated solely to managing Time Off In Lieu (TOIL). However, you can record TOIL either as a custom leave type for tracking purposes or manually adjust annual leave balances to represent TOIL. Here are two approaches:
1. Create a Custom Leave Type for TOIL
You can define and set up custom leave types, such as TOIL, in the Employee Calendar section. This allows you to record TOIL days/hours taken, making it visible in employee records and reports.
Steps:
- Go to the Employee Calendar for the relevant employee.
- Click "Add leave".
- Under "Leave Type," you can select an existing type or click to add a custom type.
- Create a new leave type called "TOIL."
- Enter the date(s) and the amount of TOIL taken.
- Save the leave entry.

2. Manually Adjust Annual Leave Balance
If you wish for TOIL to increase the employee’s leave entitlement, you can manually adjust their annual leave balance to account for TOIL. You may use the “Adjust leave balance” option in BrightPay and add TOIL hours/days to it.

Important Notes
- TOIL tracking in BrightPay is essentially a manual/custom process, so you will need to ensure your internal policies on TOIL accrual and taking are adhered to.
- Reporting on TOIL can be managed by running custom reports against leave types, if you need visibility for HR or payroll purposes.
